Zane only moves at the very end, in Episodes 11 and 12.

Episodes 1, 2, 3 and 5 have no romance steps for anyone, and together they cost 2,152 diamonds. If you're playing for a love interest, those are the first episodes I'd play free. Episode 10 is the opposite: 4 steps for Max and 2 for Xander, so keep diamonds for it.
